This flock we encountered at Stellwagen Bank, MA, during the 2009 Christmas Bird Count led by Simon Perkins. Best birds here were a Northern Fulmar (on Dec 31!), a Lesser Black-backed Gull, several kumlieni Iceland Gulls and two Glaucous Gulls. Visible are Gannets, Kittiwakes, American Herring and Greater Black-backed Gulls. Other sightings included 7 Fin Whales, 2 Little Auks and dozens of Thick-billed Murre.

Army ants(warm)
0:9
These tiny ants will eat anything they get their jaws on and so all living creatures run for their lives. Birds know that, and in different C & S American countries various birds specialise in attending these swarms to prey on insects and reptiles that are flushed by the ants. In Panama, these specialists include Grey-headed Tanager, Bicolored (of which you can hear the calls in the background) and Ocellated Antbird (see other videos).

Ocellated Antbird
0:20
An Ocellated Antbird attending a small army antswarm, with a second bird briefly appearing on the right. Not really rare but difficult to come by unless one finds an army antswarm :-). [A large antswarm at Nusagandi, few days later, held 15 Ocellateds, along with Black-crowned Antpitta and Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo!]
