Forbes's Forest-Rail ? (1)
0:20
Could this be a male Forbes's Forest-Rail ? To my knowledge, only Chestnut F-R is reported from the Kumul Lodge feeder, however this individual has dark wings and lower back, but a clear chestnut upper back, as is depicted for Forbes's in "Rails" (Taylor & Van Perlo). Comments are welcome!

High water levels meant most trails were inundated; fortunately we bumped into this one, perched along the Elevara river.

A female emptying a pineapple. They're even better in the forest; I have seen them on sev occasions feeding deep in between the leaves of (Pandanus?) palms, along the lodge's trails.

At some point it seems to wonder - why do I have such long tailfeathers...?

Ever wondered how a Ribbon-tailed Astrapia, the bird with the longest tailfeathers in the world, preens them? I did, and two days later I witnessed this! Also see video no 4.

This male attacks its own mirror image in the rear view mirror of BirdingPal David Gravatt's car. I had only seen this behaviour before with Common Pheasant (in Europe).

A pair. None seen in or near the few spinifex areas we searched afterwards (for Spinifexbird and Rufous-crowned Emuwren, both of which we dipped).
