Anyone know any records that may stand in the UK.
Just did one on the Isle of Lewis and we got 105, a record by virtue it was the first time one has been done.
I have a recollecton the Scottish record might be 145.
What is the British record? county records?

I think the British day-record is 171 species (based on a vague recollection that a team of birders visited several areas of the country over 24 hours - this was a few years ago mind). I stand to be corrected on the exact figure though!
The Cambridgeshire record is 135 species in 24 hours (my personal best in the county is 134 species in May 2008).

Here in Bucks, we smashed our long-standing record back in 2005 when Simon Nichols, Ash Boelens, Mark Wilson and I got 121 in 24 hours on May 1st.
Not a bad result, as counties don't get much more inland than ours, and we lack a large res such as Farmoor, Gratham Water, Rutland Water...

The Dublin Bird race is held every year in January. The record score is 110 species, held by myself and 3 team mates.

Hi Martin
the Cheshire and Wirral record is 149 set back in 1993. Annual attempts have got as high as 142 subsequently I think, but that year was exceptional with lingering winter waterfowl and waders on the Dee and Mersey, and a rush of migrants on the day, with some outrageous residents like the BW Stilts at Inner Marsh farm etc available.

The UK day listing record is of 178 species recorded, moving between Anglesey and Norfolk in 24 hours (submitted to and accepted by the UK400 Club).
The January 1st record is held by a team from Kent and currently stands at 137 species
I am always keen to hear of new listing attempts in any county in the UK as some of the data I currently have on file may be out of date
Very best wishes

As far as I know, the Finnish day record is 182 and the Estonian 194 (both with AERC TAC taxonomy). The Spanish record is at least 217.
The Kuusamo (an inland municipality located almost at the polar circle) 24h bird race record is 136. The 24h record made at a fixed location (in this case, a birdwatching tower) is 142 in Estonia. In Finland, the 8h record made at a fixed location (birdwatching tower) is 119 (as far as I know).

Here in Northumberland the big day record is 148 set on 13th May 2006, a year when several teams including myself scored 143-146.
