View Full Version : Problems uploading images

I have tried several times to use the link to upload images from my site to the Surfbirds gallery and in every case, I get the notice that the image has been successfully uploaded but it does not appear in the gallery. Am I doing something wrong?

Can I use this facility to upload more than one image each time I select upload image?

Thanks

There is a problem with image upload Peter, and photos appearing (or not) in the gallery and "recent photos". Admin are working on it (I hope).

Good afternoon and thanks for the info Colin. Hopefully I shall get a reply from admin to this post when it is fixed.

Guess the Tern and Swallows from here are now with you:smile:. I shall be back posting on the site now. Most of the work on my house has finished.

Hello Andy et al. Any progress on the photo upload front? The "recent upload" images in the header are getting a bit "jaded" now!!

Best,

Colin

Thanks Colin. I was tempted to send another request myself.

You should be able to upload OK. It's just the display of latest images on forum homepage that's under repair. Trying to get it to display latest photo from each album like this page:
http://surfbirds.com/albums/showmembers.php/cat/500

Well I tried again and - guess what, I was told my image had uploaded successfully but where:hmpf:?

This is the same problem that I reported when raising this issue and it has nothing to do with the issue you are investigating/fixing.

hmm and you are selecting an album you want to upload to in the pull-down right?

hmm and you are selecting an album you want to upload to in the pull-down right?

Thanks for replying. I have done a little more investigating to see if I can more fully describe the problem.

The url.
This is the url I have entered in the url box.
http://www.imageinuk.com/Recent-Photos/New-Bird-Uploads/Black-headed-Gull-Larus/689092737_ytosE-XL.jpg
What I found when looking in the url box was that everything was correct except that the last characters after the 'E' were missing. These being '-XL.jpg'. I tried to enter these missing characters but they could not be added to the box. This suggested that there is a limit on url length in this box.

Testing using Tinyurl
I then converted the url using tinyurl to shorten the url length. Entered this modified url in the box. Gave the upload a title and description and kept the upload gallery at the default 'Members Gallery'. Uploaded, was informed all was OK and was taken to my members gallery. All this seemed to be normal. Looking at the entries in my gallery, the image was not there.

I hope that this info helps. If you click on the url in this e-mail you should find it correctly takes you to the test image in question on my website.

Thanks again

Hi Peter, thanks for posting this issue. Must admit, uploading via a url is not something we've kept a close eye on to check it's working. Regardless of url length, it doesn't seem to post. We'll fix it. In the meantime, you should be able to post your photos from the "choose file" option off your hard drive.

Nice shot by the way.

Thank you for your reply and comment. I shall post again using the files on my PC for now. I am trying to keep the copies at a minimum hence that is why I post from a url.
When checking this function, can you please establish if I can upload more than one url at a time? Its tedious having to go 'upload photo' each time I post a url.
Cheers for now

What is the current status of the work on "fixing" the link to uploaded images and them appearing in the "Latest Photos" header?

Not much incentive to upload anything at this moment in time.

Thanks again Colin. I too have heard nothing about fixing the problem. I shall post a couple of forum messages with links from my website and hope that helps bring this back up the priority list.

Has anything been done, or is anything being done, to fix this problem?

I note that the last two images on the front-page header "recent photos" show images uploaded on the 6th and 4th of January; I have just uploaded an image and it does not appear on the "recent photos" header.

There are many members, like myself, who like to see the the most recently uploaded images and are keen to upload one or two of their own photos per week. You might remember that I originally criticised the fact that some people were swamping this facility with many uploads each day, and that I recommended that a limit (one or two images per day) should be imposed.

PLEASE, get your "finger out" and sort this problem - it is annoying a lot of members.

Good evening Colin. Thanks for bringing this up again. I must admit I am one of those annoyed that it seems to be completely ignored. I have reduced my postings on here because no-one seems to be taking the issues (including the one I raised) seriously.

Hello Peter,

I really do not know what the problem is here, and we have had no explanation from Admin as to why there has been such a long delay.

I have had direct contact with a few people who, like me, are considering "jumping ship" if this is not resolved.

It is such a shame. This was one of the websites/forums I used to regularly visit and enjoy the sharing between members.

There's no new news to report on the progress of this issue, hence no update here. It requires a custom re-program of another company's software and is more challenging than orginally thought. Various attempts have either failed or were insecure and made the site vulnerable to hackers. The tech team are working on it, in between addressing other issues that are critical to the daily running of the site. Will update when we have something to report.

Thank you for this update.
With no information being provided it was easy to believe nothing was being done and the problem ignored. I appreciate the difficulties you are encountering but providing no feedback does not help.

I would echo Peter's comments, and sincerely hope that a solution can be found in the near future - bird images are, I think, just as important as the learned text on this forum.

I might have missed something, but why did this facility (recent images) go "tits up" in the first place?

Stick at it, please.

Colin
