Hi there photographed this mute swan today at conkers in the national forest
(swadlincote area postcode de12 6ga) it had these 2 rings, the one on the left leg i dont recognise, i have taken a look at http://www.cr-birding.be/ and if i am correct, this bird was ringed in denmark? i would like someone to confirm that i have got the right one before i email for more info.

Michael, I think your assumption looks realistic given the projects listed. Referring to the Migration Atlas it would appear that the UK and Denmark swap quite a few Mute Swans so it would be perfectly reasonable. Even if this turned out not to be the case, I wouldn't hesitate to contact the Danish ringer - I am sure he will appreciate your interest even if it turns out not to be one of his rings. If it draws a blank with Denmark I would try contacting the general coordinator, on behalf of the BTO, for all cr-wildfowl in the UK is Richard Hearn, Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, Slimbridge, Gloucestershire,GL27BT, United Kingdom.

The best place to report this would be to colourmarkedwildfowl@wwt.org.uk who should be able to identify the ringer involved.

After a few comments on other threads, I'll just add that the BTO doesn't have any direct involvement in colour-ring reporting. We simply aim to direct people to the right place, so we don't have any real control over delays. If you don't hear anything for a long time then we can chase records up, but we don't necessarily know who the ringer is anyway, as we don't coordinate these projects.

The metal ring could be a BTO ring, as we use these kind of clip rings on the larger sizes.
