Mainland Devon's first Semipalmated Sandpiper is still present for its 8th day at Dawlish Warren NNR at the mouth of the Exe Estuary.
It was found on 26th August, and has settled into a pattern of roosting on the beach at high tide (where close views can be obtained) and feeding with the Dunlin and Ringed Plover flock in an area known as The Bight, the area of mud and seaweed adjacent to the hide, during the mid -> low tide period.
Gary Thoburn has taken probably the best images yet of the bird, they can be found here (http://www.devonbirding.co.uk/latestsightings.htm).

Hi Joe,

Thanks for pointing out those pics to us.

There's also a real nice pic on the Dawlish Warren website now by a birder called John Lee.

The tide is getting to be lower and later in the mornings so I think it might be worthwhile getting there early to see it pushed into the Bight and get close views of the bird's own accord.

Cheers,
Andrew.

Hi Joe, nice website you have there and what a great run of waders you've had in south Devon past few weeks.

Will second what Andy said, you have a great website there Joe. Your new camera gear also seems to be working very well.

Look forward to more posts from you on here (as opposed to BF!!).

Best,

Colin

Thank you guys.

Although I missed the Marsh Sand, it has indeed been a good month/year in Devon. On the wader front we've had Long-billed Dowitcher, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Marsh Sandpiper and American Golden Plover. I've been lucky enough to connect with 3/4 of those birds, so it's definitely been good.

Here's to a rarity-filled autumn.
