Nice photos of an Arctic Loon (Black-throated Diver) in Oregon on North Coast Diaries blog (http://www.surfbirds.com/blogs/mbalame/). Less than 5 state records of a bird that is very rare across the lower 48 states.

Also, while you are on this blog, scroll down for a very dramatic portrait of a Western Grebe washed up after a fierce storm.

Thanks for that Andy, wonderful to see the Arctic Loon, what a terribly low rate over such a State expanse. The poor Grebe did indeed look a pitiful sight after the storm, hopefully it did ok after some time spent recuperating. Lovely photos of both very beautiful birds.

What a storm though! It was all good to read about though, sad, but very good.

Thanks a lot Andy.
