Has anybody got a copy on their Kindle and can give us the low down?

Haven't seen the Kindle version, but if it's based on the new reprint of the book, then the hard copies of that seem to be very poor indeed. The reproduction of the images are very bad, like a poor scan, and presumably the kindle version uses the same scans?

As one of the amazon reviewers say, you literally cannot age many of the birds anymore from the new images; it's that poor.

I'm glad I bought the original at the time - in fact I wish I'd bought several because I could now start selling them off to fund foreign trips.

The cheapest used copy on Amazon is a very reasonable £906.62.

I can't quite work out what the massive attraction is for this book (first edition). It's useful, but ringers can easily get by without it, there are quite a few species not included, and it's not that comprehensive (tails are just as important as wings, but where are they?). In terms of what it's actually worth as a practical book, I'd say about £70 max.

Ringers aren't renowned for opening their wallets without the aid of a crowbar, so it must be collectors who are bumping up these prices. They must have bunged the publisher a few quid to make sure the reprint was next to useless!
