Zootherabirding had a very nice ad in Birding Asia and a very nice website as well. I hadn't heard of them or Nick Bray before. Anyone traveled with them/him? Any recommendations, thoughts, opinions? Their prices look terrific and the emphasis on endemics is just the kind of birding I like. Jim in California.

A friend of mine went to Nepal with them (from the UK), and speaks highly of them. The prices do not include airfare, but are quite reasonable - not sure how much hassle there would be in co-ordinating arrivals on different flights from various countries for a tour, but I guess that's what they are used to?

Hi Jim..
I guide and operate Zoothera tours here in Colombia through my company COLOMBIA Birding.. they are really good all over the world and always work with great local companies and guides having secure trips in terms of target birds, logistics, good transportation, etc. Nick Bray and Steve Bird, plus all other Zoothera staff is excellent.. totally recommended!
saludos from Colombia, Diego.

Really?? Just had a quick squiz at the South Africa tour as I've been there recently. Total (including Kruger extension and airfare) is £4795.....!!!!! For just under 3 weeks. Did 21 days myself there with the girlf for £1700 each all in and saw all specialities! I'm certainly in the wrong business......where do these prices come from?

Hi Jim,

I do have a bias as I know both Nick Bray and Steve Bird well but I would like to testify to their outstanding birding ability and being very decent guys to go birding with. They always focus on the local specialties and endemics, as you'd hope and expect, but they will always garner a very long bird list as well as a decent mammal list too, where this permits. I believe they offer good value for money especially when you compare their prices to the "big boys".

In reference to Sherpa's comment, many other companies had a difficult time during the economic down-turn, not just Birdseekers, so I think this comment is rather unfair and possibly pointed for personal reasons(?). Zoothera are ATOL-bonded so your investment is safe.

I would recommend them. Good luck.

Thanks, Adam. I appreciate your response. I've been traveling with Birdtour Asia but thought Zoothera might be a good fit for Columbia. As for Birdtour Asia accolades do not do James and Rob justice. They are simply outstanding.

Hi Jim, I couldn't agree more. When you look at the quality of images by both James and Rob on surfbirds, you can tell they're getting great views of some very special birds, and obviously know their patches incredibly well. They definitely have the knack of getting rare owls to drop at their feet.
Good luck with it all.
