Despite being no doubt regular migrants in the eastern half of Texas, Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrows are rarely recorded in the region. In fact, there are fewer than 40 inland records for the entire state.

I originally posted this to the NA Common site, thinking that this was a Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrow. Subsequent review of the images and comparisons to recent images leads me to believe that this is likely subvirgatus Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow. The smaller bill and finer streaking seem to indicate this ID. Does anyone have any comment as to this re-identification? Please respnd to me at the link provided.

It perched behind a big branch which covered his face, chest. I had to remove the branch with Photoshop. Used Canon 20D 100-400mm IS.

Not hard bird to find, but very hard bird to take a photo. Canon 20D 100-400mm IS.

There were at least 3 indivifual Sharp-tailed Sparrow at Montrose Dune bushes. It is very hard to get clear photo. Canon 20D 100-400 IS.
