Another day down at Berry Head in South Devon produced fantastic views of the female SARDINIAN WARBLER today in the bushes close to the car park ! also seen in the same bushes was a YELLOW-BROWED WARBLER & a DARTFORD WARBLER was heard calling but not seen .
News of a DARK-EYED JUNCO at East Coker in Somerset had Andy Bond & myself making the trip for it from Breen Sands on the North Somerset coast where we had been to a 60s music revival but the journey was well worth it as the bird showed well in the garden of number 25 Mill Close where they very kindly let us in to there conservatory to see the bird , but I could only manage to get these crap hand held shots of the bird before it was lost to view again .
Our next stop was at Berry Head in South Devon as Andy hadn`t seen the SARDINIAN WARBLER yet & he was in luck & got a good look at the bird but I only saw it in flight this time !
Hot news today of a female SARDINIAN WARBLER at Berry Head in South Devon had Brian Heasman & myself shooting off in hope that it would still be showing when we got there ! but on arrival we were told that it had not been seen for a while .
So after a while the birders there drifted off in hope of finding it again , I was in a spot close to the road when I found a BARRED WARBLER sat in a small bush so I called out to another birder Ken Montandon who was close to me what I had & he got good views of it before it flew off to some other bushes , as did other birders when the bird was relocated again making it the first twitchable one for 6 years .
Then later on in the day the Sardinian Warbler was refound & about 17 birders got brief views of the bird on & off for a while before it came out into the open where in the end we all ended up getting good views of this very rare bird in Devon & even better my 6th County tick of the year .
An early start this morning for a trip down to South Devon for a reported COMMON CRANE that has been seen in fields beside the A379 near Modbury & after looking in the fields all along the main road for quite a while I finally connected with the bird & got good views of it , also in the area was a GREYLAG GOOSE & 2 JAY .
On the way back home I stopped to look at the River Dart at the Kilbury Bridge but all I could see were 2 GREY WAGTAIL , & the last stop of the day was at the Exminster Marshes in hope of a Short Eared Owl being around ! but I was out of luck but did see a nice Male PEREGRINE FALCAN sat on one of the posts .
