A trip up to Somerset today to the Ham Walls Reserve to see if we could get views of the BITTERN that has been reported there & after a short wait the bird the bird duly performed & flew right in front of me , I could only get these poor hand hold shots of it before it dropped out of sight into the reedbed but I suppose something is better than nothing .
On the reserve there was also a few CETTI`S WARBLER , GARDEN WARBLER & WHITETHROAT .
For safety sake Brian Heasman & myself made the trip up to Chew Valley Lake in Somerset to look for the bird that is being called a possible AMERICAN HERRING GULL & after a short wait the bird arrived & gave good views , it was a very large looking gull larger than the LESSER BLACK BACKED GULL`s that were on show as well , it also had a very heavy bill & a very full looking breast but whether it is one or not will will have to wait & see !
The highlight of today were 2 GREY PARTRIDGE seen near the village of Half Moon close to Exeter in Devon , also seen today were 4 TREE PIPIT & a JAY at the Haldon Forest in Devon , & 2 MAGPIE that have constantly been raiding the bird table in my garden .
Today I erected a bird table in my garden as I have wanted one for a long time , & surprise surprise this JAY was my first visiter .
