This morning I went for a look at Broadsands in South Devon in the freezing cold ! & saw a ROCK PIPIT , 4 CHIFFCHAFF & the long staying
YELLOW BROWED WARBLER .
I then went back to my home in Topsham & met up with Andy Bond & we went up to Curload in Somerset to look for the Black Throated Thrush but we were out of luck & Dipped it ! as the bird had vanished before we got there .
But there were numerous REDWING & FIELDFARE , a few MISTLE THRUSH & SONG THRUSH , 4 SNIPE & a KINGFISHER at the site .
This morning I dropped into Dawlish Warren for a quick look on the way home from Brixham & a look at the sea got me 11 GREAT CRESTED GREBE ,
2 GREAT NORTHERN DIVER & a RED THROATED DIVER .
I then went over to the Greenland Lake area & saw 7 MEADOW PIPIT ,
a mixed flock of 30+ GREENFINCH & GOLDFINCH & 3 Female & 4 Male BULLFINCH .
This morning was a cold & misty morning so I went to Broadsands in South Devon for a look & saw 2 GREAT NORTHERN DIVER , a BLACK THROATED DIVER , 9 GREAT CRESTED GREBE , a BLACK NECKED GREBE & this RED NECKED GREBE that was constantly diving but I just managed to get this shot of it , the only other thing was a flock of 10 FULMAR that were sat in the bay .
Today Andy Bond & mysef went to the old sludge beds at Countess Wear near Exeter to see if we could catch up with the YELLOW BROWED WARBLER that had been seen there about a week ago .
And we were in luck & found the bird right at the far end of the reserve in with half a dozen wintering CHIFFCHAFF & quite a few GOLDCREST ! & while we were there a very nice FIRECREST gave breaf but good views .
Also seen was a small flock of LONG TAILED TIT
& a GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER .
This morning I went out again to Ide Nr Exeter to see if I could possibly get a shot of a HAWFINCH & this time I was in luck . It took quite a while as at first there was no sign of any birds but I persisted & after a couple of hours I got my reward as 3 birds came into the beach trees & I managed to get these 2 shots , it is the first time that I have got any shot of Hawfinch so I was very pleased .
Also at the site were a Male & Female BULLFICH , about 50+ FIELDFARE ,
20+ REDWING , a Male SISKIN , a GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER & a
Female KESTREL .
