The Cotswold Water Park

The Cotswold Water Park (CWP) lies in 40 square miles of farmland and wetland between Cirencester, Swindon and Lechlade. To date 145 lakes have been flooded (April 2006) and this is set to increase over 50 years, creating other wetland habitats. CWP holds nationally important numbers of wintering waterbird, e.g. Smew, Great Crested Grebe, Gadwall, Coot and Pochard. In Spring and Summer visitors can hear Nightingales or see flocks of Hobby’s migrating through.

1 Green Sandpiper and 150+ Lapwing leaving Kent End farm Quarry. Gareth Harris

350+ Lapwing leaving roost with 250+ Black headed Gulls from CWP 74/68a Gareth Harris

110+ Greylag Geese moved from (presumed) roost on CWP 83 onto grassland adjacent before flying onto CWP 74/68a. Gareth Harris

2500+ Starling, 150+ Fieldfare, with smaller numbers of Redwing seen leaving roosts within CWP 68d. Plus a slow movement of meadow Pipit, Skylark, Siskin and Lesser Redpoll at first light. Gareth Harris
