Alvecote Pools SSSI

After last night's heavy rain I knew that there would be a few good passerines around the patch today and I wasn't disappointed.  Around Bramcote Brook the area was dripping with common Warblers such as Chiffchaffs, Willow Warblers and Common Whitethroats along with a few of the more scarce Lesser Whitethroat.  Also along the Brook a Common Kingfisher was disturbed.  Over the River Anker on the Flashes the flock of Northern Lapwing numbered an impressive 119 birds.  In the Mill Pool area there was nothing of note on the water probably due to disturbance from pain in the ass fishermen.  God I just hate 'em!  Along Teal Pool hedge however it was a different story.  There were at least 4 Spotted Flycatchers (the first of the year), 2 Common Redstarts and a Whinchat as well as another good fall of common Warblers.

South View, Polesworth

Not only did the rain bring down some good stuff down at the Pools it also provided me with a new garden tick in the form of an adult Lesser Whitethroat, a long overdue species for the South View area.  Around the feeders there was a juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker, at least 4 Bullfinch and 2 Goldfinch amongst the usual visitors.  Not a bad day at all!
