Azorean Atlantic Gull DIPPED in Oxfordshire

We had originally planned to be in Cornwall today in order to clear up on all the rares that were buzzing around my favourite County before sailing over to the Scillies on Saturday morning.  Unfortunately there was nothing worth heading down early for and to be honest the weather patterns for next week hardly look much better either!

I therefore decided to either venture north-eat for the Nottinghamshire STEPPE GREY SHRIKE or make my way down south-east for the gruesome looking AZOREAN ATLANTIC GULL.  With the Shrike disappearing I was left with the Gull and just 90 minutes later I was down at Didcot checking through the loafing flocks of Laridae.  Unfortunately I failed to connect with the brute as I had to leave before the bird became showy due to 'school run' commitments.  As a consolation the vast numbers of Red Kites were nice to see and a couple of Mediterranean Yellow-legged Gulls were picked out amongst the thousands of Lesser Black-backed Gulls, a scattering of Herring Gulls and the odd Great Black-backed Gull.

Birding celebrities on site included LGRE and Gary Bagnell along with his lovely camera carrying contact Lucy.

Right, I better get packing for the Scilly trip.  Wish me luck.... I'll bloody need it!

Best of luck for the trip - i used to go for a minimum of 2 weeks which usually ensured that there was a bit of activity if it was quiet but its not an exact science otherwise it would be boring ! Azores still performing just look at ystdas blog - its Raybans all round !

About Me

Aye up folks! My name is Adam 'Archie' Archer, a birder from the West Midlands of England where the birds maybe slightly sh*te but the birders are among the best in the World. This is simply a blog about my birding experiences from my beloved Isles of Great Britain. I have been fortunate to see many great birding spectacles from Unst at the highest tip of Shetland to pelagic trips off the coast of the Isles of Scilly. I have also included sightings from around my home in North Warwickshire and my local patch Alvecote Pools a Site of Special Scientific Interest that straddles the Warwickshire & Staffordshire borders. Birding is a great hobby.... so please relax, smile & enjoy it. WARNING: SOME CONTENT MAY OFFEND! PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY COMMENTS LEFT ON THIS BLOG ARE NOT NECESSARILY THE VIEWS OF MY GOODSELF.... SO THERE!
