I got so excited by yesterdays Tree Sparrow that I forgot to post the fact that I had been around Hook in the morning. Managed to get quite close to a small party of Black Tailed Godwits in the harbour just before the tide pushed them off to the scrape. Where I counted 130 birds, certainly over the last few weeks they have lost most of the summer plumage and turned into their winter grey. Black Tailed Godwit, Hook with Warsash, 17 Sep 2009

Also noticed that Wigeon are starting to arrive back now; I had 17 birds feeding on seaweed in the harbour. Also nice to see a Lesser Black Backed Gull in the harbour along with a Common. The Lesser is quite a rare bird for me on this patch.
