Following a call from Steve I headed down to Hayling Island to connect with the reported Pied Flycatcher at Northney. The bird showed really well for several minutes on a dead branch in the hedge adjacent to the public footpath at SU723037. A Spotted Flycatcher was also present and perched next to the Pied Flycatcher briefly.
Pied Flycatcher, Northney, Hayling Island - 24 Aug 09. The bird's back wasn't always hunched as shown in this particular image.
Earlier on in the day I walked down the Titchfield Canal path. The highlight was three Yellow Wagtail feeding around the feet of a small herd of cattle. Other species of note included: Cetti's Warbler - 4 (several others heard) ; Whinchat - 2; Sedge Warbler - 1; Blackcap - male; Reed Bunting - 3 and Sparrowhawk - male.
Good birding,
