As we journeyed from Scotland back to Hampshire we stopped on route in Lancashire at the In-law’s for a quick break. I took the opportunity to have a few hours at MarshSide RSPB. Quite pleased to come across a Wood Sandpiper on the junction pool. The bird came quite close but the sun was behind so not the best conditions. A confiding Common Sandpiper was also showing well in front of the main hide. Also seen was a Wall Butterfly, at least I am hoping it is this species. It states in my book that it is a common species throughout most of England but this was the first I recall seeing.

The bird was feeding quite happily and close to the main hide. I believe it is called the Sandgrouse hide. Wood Sandpiper, Marshside, 12 Aug 2009
Like I said not the best shots but these are the first I have for this species, so they will have to do. Hope to catch up with a Hants bird over the autumn period.

Slightly different angle. Unforunately I could only shoot through a screen so could not change my position.
