As well as great views of the Ptarmigan we also had several other species of birds on the plateau. A small flock of Snow Bunting was encountered just above Lurcher’s Crag, most didn’t get too close but one confiding juvenile allowed some photo opportunities. Meadow Pipit was the most abundant bird on the plateau as well as small numbers of Wheatears. Two small herds of Reindeer were sighted; these are feral herds but never the less very nice to chance upon. After we had dropped off the mountain we came across a small colony of Scotch Argus Butterflies feeding in grassy meadows (I think on Scabious).
