Had a short walk around Hook this afternoon with my folks who are down visiting for the weekend. The first bird of note was a Red Breasted Merganser, not 100% if this bird is a female or a juvenile bird but I think I would plump for the former. The bird was swimming just inside the harbour off the shingle spit. We had a few Sandwich Terns fly past as we walked along the beach along with a single Great Black-backed Gull. The scrape was home to a couple of hundred Black-tailed Godwit the majority still in summer plumage, a single Green Sandpiper also briefly visited one of the scrapes islands. Also present were twenty or so Canada Geese which left in small groups over the duration of our stay. All images taken today at the reserve.
