Had a late afternoon walk around Hook this evening. Nothing too out of the ordinary to report. A few Common and Sandwich Terns flying around and a few Skylarks and Meadow Pipits still in good voice. Also came across the colour ringed Oystercatcher that I saw on the 11th June. It was in company with another bird and from the behaviour exhibited I would say they had young nearby, but I didn’t see any. At one point the colour ringed bird gave a few alarm calls and by doing so flushed a Green Sandpiper out of a nearby ditch that I would not have otherwise seen. The Sandpiper landed a few feet further on. Probably the same bird Bob Marchant saw yesterday. As I walked across Hook Park I came upon an old tree trunk on the ground. There must have been twenty or so Grasshoppers basking along its length. All images taken today in and around the Hook with Warsash area.

Meadow Pipit
Colour ringed Oystercatcher with mate
Male Meadow Brown
White Campion....................Hopefully
Common Field Grasshoppers.........Again I'm hoping the ID is correct

• Monday, June 29, 2009 - Colour ringed Oystercatchers at Hook with Warsash
It could be worth checking the colour combination of the bird you saw yesterday at Hook with Warsash. There are at least two Oystercatchers in the area with very similar ring combinations.
