Myself and Mark had a late afternoon stroll around the wood today. Hoping to connect with Silver Washed Fritillary for Mark and White Admirals for the both of us. We did not have to wait long for either species. Within a few metres of entering the wood we had a couple of Fritillaries on the path side thistles. Literally a few paces further on we had a White Admiral land on one of the Cow Parsley family of plants. The butterfly was in a far from 'perfect' state. It looks like it narrowly missed becoming a meal for one of the many Warblers around the area. The picture below shows what the White Admiral should look like. This individual was resting on the tarmac later in the walk. Along with the above were the more normal Botley Wood residents, the Ringlet below though was not showing much in the way of rings! Hope the ID is correct. Ringlet, Botley Wood, 25 Jun 2009 Large Skipper, Botley Wood, 25 Jun 2009 Broad Bodied Chaser, Botley Wood, 25 Jun 2009
