I started my first day by walking down the back side of the mountain to town (Telluride). The first birds that I shot were Yellow-crowned Warblers.

I ran across more Chipping Sparrows. Here is an example of how my use of flash was still in the newbie phase:

My trip down the mountain was fairly uneventful. I spent a LOT of time making sure that I knew where I was walking, the path was gravel and a steep grade. I did see a lifer though: a Red-breasted Nuthatch.

At the bottom, I saw this fat little guy who looked like a giant obese Chipmunk or a mix between a Chipmonk and a Groundhog.

I followed the stream towards town and saw some White-crowned Sparrows

I saw a number of Wilson's Warblers (another lifer).

I had problems differentiating the females with the Yellow Warblers that are there too.
There were the usual Black-billed Magpies in town. They have the same problem with the bald head that the Cardinals have at home.

That first black-billed magpie is looking quite frazzled. I started going bald when I was 20, but I'm sure the bird is just molting...
Thanks for sharing this trip with us.
