Last summer, we had a family of Northern Cardinals coming to our feeders daily. When Hurricane Ike came through, we did not see any Cardinals for several months. This spring we had some Cardinals come back to our feeders. They have paired off and we have had multiple clutches throughout the summer. I have noticed times when there have been at least 10 cardinals at the feeders at a time. So it is amazing how given the right circumstances, we can bring numbers up so quickly. Of course, I have had a couple of Great Horned Owls in the yard for the past month, but I think that they go after small mammals for the most part.

It's funny how different these birds look from each other:

Cardinal yearlings....
Dave,
Thanks for the picks! We have some baby cardinals growing up in our yard too, but your pictures really do them justice! Yes, they're growing up with different feathering shapes and color shades, and are quite unique. I'm sure you notice the yearling redbellied woodpeackers with grayish heads. And how can we not mention the yearling bluejays too, and how entertaining they are!
