Wrens: little tough guys

I have really been entertained by the different wrens that I have come in contact with, especially the Carolina Wren.  They remind me of a little boy with the courage associated with hiding behind his mother.  You know who I am talking about: the kid who is scared and goes running to mommy and then makes faces at you when he gets there.  Well, to me, Wrens are just like that.  They could be out doing their thing, and then when they see you they fly to their brush pile or bush and then start harrassing you.  Most of the time they will stay hidden, but sometimes if you pish just right they will come out enough to give you a good look. When you finally give up and walk away they will call to you and try to get you back to play the game some more.   I have better luck with the Carolinas, they seem to be braver, not as brave as their really tough counterpart the Carolina Chickadee, but more so than the other wrens.

You know, another thing that vocally tells me that they are proud little birds is their song which is really loud for such a little bird.  The first time I heard it, I went looking for a bigger bird and assumed that it was not the wren till I saw him singing.  Here is a singing Carolina Wren:

Well, for a bland looking bird, they definitely have a colorful personality!  Here is a Sedge  Wren:  Here is a really bad picture of a Marsh  Wren Here is a Winter Wren: Here is a couple of Bewicks Wrens:These interesting birds are more populous than I remember before the Hurricane.  There are a LOT more brush piles and dead tree limbs that make for a good habitat for Wrens and therefore I feel that the numbers have increased compared to a lot of the other species out there .
