BELVIDE BIRDING

• Saturday, June 20, 2009 - Belvide Cloudy W 3 Royal Tern Twitch

The first returning Common Sandpiper was on the dam this morning also 8 adult Oystercatcher and 3 LRP were present. A single Peregrine flew over this morning and Pochard have increased to 8. A Little Owl was showing well along Shutt Green Lane.

After my morning visit to Belvide I was relaxing at home when news came out that the Royal Tern had been relocated at Llandudno North Wales. After a speedy dash up the M6/A55 the news on the pager was negative saying the bird had flown high west. It was only as we were approaching Llandudno that it was back again off the seafront. After a short frantic search the bird was located fishing just off the beach and showing very well. A good half hour of grilling was enjoyed as it patrolled up and down the seafront. Then as it did before, it flew past us and out of sight around the Great Orm. Not to be seen again for the rest of the evening.
