This restricted range species was much less common than the similar
Thick-billed Euphonia. Yellow-crowned can be distinguished from
Thick-billed by its dark, not yellow throat. It ranges from eastern
Nicaragua through Panama, but is not know from South America.

Like other Euphonias, it specializes in the berries of Mistletoe. Euphonias
were formerly considered a genus of tanagers, but new evidence
places them with the finches (Fringillidae).
