Here again I borrowed the Leica scope owned by Canopy Lodge to get a
distant record shot of this wren.
This species was not common. We only saw two on our trip. It was singing
loudly and posed in the open long enough for this photo.
Early authors classified this bird in the genus Thryophilus. Clements lists
five subspecies ranging from Mexico to South America. T. r. castanonotus
is a Pacific Coast representative ranging from Nicaragua to Panama. HBW
follows Phillips calling this population T. r. skutchi. .
