Female seedeaters are notoriously difficult to identify. This female
Ruddy-breasted Seedeater was identified by its small size, comparable to
the associated male and lack of yellow tones on the underparts. It also
has more fringing on the wing coverts cf. the female Yellow-bellied
Seedeater.
