The light colored eye helps distinguish the Greater Ani from two other
species of Ani which occur in Panama. The Greater Ani reaches the northern
limit of its range here in the former Canal Zone. Unlike other species of
Ani, the Greater Ani has an abrupt end to the culmen ridge about 2/3 of the
way towards the tip as seen here.

Anis are highly social and build a communal which is shared by several
      females.

The species is monotypic and ranges from Panama to northern Argentina.
