27 January 2010, Summit Ponds, Summit, Panama
This close relative of the more familiar Great Kiskadee (Pitangus
sulphuratus) reaches the northern and western limit of its range in Central
Panama. It has less rust in the wings and tail than the Great Kiskadee and
is perhaps best identified by its long slender bill. We found it only near
water.
Two races are recognized. This is P. l. panamensis which is slightly
larger than the nominate race found in the tropics of South America.
