25 January 2010, Chagres River, Gamboa, Panama
This is one of a number of Flycatchers which closely resembles the more common Social Flycatcher (Myiozetetes similis). The Rusty-margined Flycatcher has a short bill similar to Social, but is darker on the back, has blacker head stripes, lacks wing-bars and has faint rusty margins to the secondaries which are visible here.
The species ranges from Panama to Brazil usually along streams and rivers. It is represented by three other races in South America where they tend to have even more rufous coloration on the wings and tail.
The yellow background is the hull of a kayak the bird was using as a perch. Digiscoped with Panasonic DMC-LZ5 | Nikon FieldScope 3 | 30X WA | hand-held (no adapter)
