      This would have been a superb shot if it were not for the fact the the camera AF has focused on the bird-box rather than the bird.

      Were you using centre-point AF, and what was your aperture for this?

      Colin,
      Thanks for your comments. I was using f8 at fl 300mm. What I had forgotten was that the distance to the bird was only about 10' and the dof gets smaller at these distances. I shall try again tomorrow but this time stop down to about f10.
