One of six birds, all ringed, which are "escapes" from a reintroduction program in Spain.
Getting these shots resulted in me being frog-marched off Salgados golf course by two objectionable paramilitary security staff and told never to go near, or onto, the course again with or without my camera gear.
You don't want to know what I think of golfers and golf courses, do you?

Depends on the golf course! Try Newbiggin g.c. in Northumberland, you'll get a lot friendlier reception from the golfers (a lot of them are interested in seeing the rarities that turn up), and no reception at all from the security staff (they don't have any!)
No alopecia, and only a short fringe . . . presume this is a juv. Bald Ibis?

Michael,
As you say, depends on your golf course! Regrettably I am "known" by this particular one as an "activist" who is trying to curtail their expansion - I could write a book on it (and may well do so). I think that the old ("ancient" even) courses in the U.K. are a totally different kettle of fish to these money grabbing ghettos which are springing up everywhere here. They are much akin to the Donald Trump intiative in Scotland which is a travesty of justice (literally, since they are going to destroy an SSSI).
The Bald Ibis certainly look like juveniles. Many people have taken .... digiscoped shots of these birds, which is why I set out today to get some decent images. When I am photographing I tend not to look at the bird, but concentrate on getting the shot; I was surprised to see just how "un-bald" some of these birds are when I processed the shots, and also how glossy the plumage was. I might post more.
Colin

Here's to hoping their plans fall foul of the credit crunch!

I would be happy to be 'frog-marched' from anywhere once I had got a shot as good as that!
