Bartholomeus Klip

Bartholomeus Klip is a romantic Victorian farmstead on a large wheat and sheep farm with its own 10 000 acre private nature reserve, near to Cape Town and the famous winelands of the Western Cape.

The Edwardian farmhouse has just four bedrooms and a suite, but also has a separate house suitable for self-catering families or groups of birdwatchers, with four bedrooms and its own swimming pool.

Bartholomeus Klip is the perfect place to unwind in the peace of the countryside, or adventure out to explore the wine farms and surrounding area.

The reserve is teeming with herds of eland, springbuck, black wildebeest, zebra and bontebok. The magnificent black eagle nests in the mountains, and the enormous dam near to the farmhouse has a spectacular array of water birds, some resident like the fish eagles and the kingfishers, and others such as the pelicans and the spoonbills less regular visitors. Flamingos have also been seen in some of Bartholomeus Klip's smaller dams and there are a host of interesting large and small birds out in the reserve and on the wheatlands, including large flocks of the blue crane, South Africa's national bird.

Mbotyi River Lodge

Situated at the mouth of the Mbotyi River tidal estuary, Mbotyi River Lodge is nestled between the rolling hills, lush tropical forest and the warm Indian Ocean. This unique and beautiful Wild Coast resort offers access to spectacular hikes, abundant birdlife and pristine wild coast beaches.

These treasures include the awesome Ntsubane Forest with its prolific bird life, gushing waterfalls in deep gorges filled with fauna and flora, glorious beaches and rolling grass hills dotted with the traditional huts of the Pondo people.

Numerous species of dolphins, whales, sharks and birds visit the coast to feast on the annual sardine migration. This can be observed from the hills and various vantage points at Mbotyi. The Ntsubane Forest is one of the largest indigenous forests in South Africa. Some 200 bird species have been recorded in the area.

Mbotyi River Lodge has 48 double rooms in thatched bungalows or wooden cabins offering sea, lagoon or forest views. All the rooms have either a balcony or patio where guests can sit and hear the rumble of the ocean or the cry of the fish eagles.

White Elephant Safari Lodge

Surrounded by the majestic Lebombo Mountains and shimmering waters of Lake Jozini, the White Elephant Safari Lodge offers every comfort for your sojourn in the African wilderness, whilst hardier birders may prefer the Bush Camp - eight safari tents set within a secluded retreat in the Pongola Game reserve.

The Pongola Game Reserve is the second oldest reserve in the world. It is a sanctuary to a large variety of wildlife, including giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, impala, hyaena, buffalo, rhino and leopard.

Birdlife is prolific due to the diversity of habitats, with in excess of 350 species recorded. White Elephant is a registered birder friendly 'hotspot' in the Pongola Game Reserve - Spot 9.3 on the Zululand Birding Route - Number 9, Phongola, in Northern Zululand.

Birding at White Elephant is both exciting and rewarding. The habitats are diverse, ranging from the Lake Jozini open waters, wetlands and grassland shoreline, bushveld, Lebombo mountain cliffs and the Hlatikulu forest on the escarpment.

Subject to weather, the lodge offers a variety of birding options, including a guided bushveld walk, game drive, morning and afternoon boat cruise, and a visit to the secret waterhole hide, within short walking distance of the Lodge.

Nambiti Plains Lodge

The Nambiti Plains Lodge is nestled amongst the fauna & flora of the spectacular Nambiti Game Reserve, a private Big Five bush retreat and game conservancy set on 20,000 acres of malaria-free bushveld in KwaZulu Natal. Djuma Game Reserve

Djuma Game Reserve - part of the Sabi Sand South Africa - offers guests the choice of three luxury safari lodges: from the magnificent Bush Lodge to the private Galago, as well as the unique Vuyatela.

Jembisa Safari Lodge

This magnificent five-star bush home is in the heart of the beautiful Waterberg, just three hours drive from Johannesburg. Tau Game Lodge

Tau is a South African luxury safari lodge situated on the far northern border of South Africa, in malaria-free 75,000 ha Madikwe Game Reserve, the 4th largest game reserve in the country. Accommodation consists of 30 comfortable thatched chalets, each with its own viewing deck.

Ten thousand animals of 27 major species, including wild dog, cheetah, lion, white and black rhino, buffalo and elephant, have been re-introduced to the Madikwe Game Reserve over a six year period with animals coming from various reserves and breeding centres.

Madikwe Game Reserve is situated in the North West Province and is bordered by Botswana in the north, the spectacular Dwarsberg Mountains to the south, the Marico river to the east. The diverse habitat in the reserve, from acacia, savannah to riverine, ensures a unique combination of species such as springbok, gemsbok, sable and impala. The birdlife is also spectacular.

A weekend bird watching safari during the summer months may be expected to render 190 to 210 bird species out of the 313 species recorded to date, and, during the winter months, 120 to 130 species. Madikwe Game Reserve is a good place to see many dry north-western species. Yellow-throated Sandgrouse are resident on the plains, and are usually present in large numbers.

Tintswalo Manor House

Tintswalo Safari Lodge is a large thatched manor house situated within the Manyeleti Private Game reserve with beautiful views of the bushveld and boasts a crystal blue swimming pool, deep shaded patio and traditional boma.

The reserve borders the Kruger National Park to the Eastern side, the Timbavati Reserve on the Northern side and the Sabi Sand reserve on the Southern side - each of these areas renowned in their own right for excellent-quality safari and wildlife experiences.

What makes Manyeleti unique, however, is the exceptionally low human: land density ratios. With only two commercially operated lodges, a maximum of 8 safari vehicles traverse the reserve. Each vehicle therefore has the equivalent of 2937 hectares to itself.

The Kruger National Park is one of the most diverse national parks in the world. It houses a vast array of flora and fauna. There are no fences between the reserves, which means that animals are free to roam unhindered. Tintswalo Safari Lodge is situated in an ideal "catchment" zone which is attractive to a variety of wildlife species due to the high quality of the environment.
