| Occasionally, we like to highlight regional websites from other parts of the world. We think India Birds could become a useful resource for anyone planning a trip to this country.
Text and photos by the webmaster Vijay Cavale India is a vast country with a human population of over a billion! Ever Expanding!! Over a thousand species of birds are found here. Winter visitors, local migrants & residents. Some are endemic to the region. While some birds thrive, there is tremendous pressure on the habitat of others due to human activity. How does the Short Toed Eagle which lives on snakes survive and grow?
Well, just outside Bangalore city, India, I found a shrub forest where these and over 200 other species of birds reside in or frequent! I bought 15 acres of land next to this forest, secured this land from human intrusion (wish I could secure the whole forest!) and planted many thousand trees and shrubs here and developed a couple of waterbodies. Birds have the right of way here! Further, I decided to photograph these and other wild birds in India and bring them to the Net! I shall continue to strive to bring as many birds from India as my time will allow to the net. Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome www.indiabirds.com ! |
